Johann van Beethoven recognized early the extraordinary talent of his son and made sure young Ludwig received a solid musical education. As a father and music teacher, Johann was extremely strict, even tyrannical, and made corporal punishment a regular part of Ludwig’s early musical education. When Ludwig began piano lessons, at the age of five, he had to stand on a footstool just to reach. Not only is Music for Life self-sufficient, but we contribute resources back into our local community’s music education. Music for Life was originally set up to support schools who wished to offer their pupils opportunities to learn a musical instrument but who struggled with the highly complex administration involved in doing this.
